Summer is short in New England. June can be disappointingly cool, and children in Boston don't get out of school until late in the month. Summer starts June 21 on the astronomical calendar, and for meteorologists, it's June 1.
But every American knows that Memorial Day weekend is the time to break out the sunscreen and the barbecue tongs, and the party keeps going until Labor Day.
In 2013, I'm back to celebrate 101 days of summer, from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, September 2. And there's something to celebrate every day.

Darkness had fallen when we left the restaurant on Brighton Ave. in Allston, but the streetlights and bright storefronts gave the steamy night a soft glow. The sidewalks were thick with sauntering people in breezy dresses, shorts and flip-flops.
